Image Usage Rights

The Buddy Holly Center retains the right to reproduce artwork for publicity purposes, including print and online (website, Facebook, etc.). Submission of an entry to this exhibition shall indicate an agreement on the part of the artist to these conditions. A catalog will be published for the exhibition.

Illuminance

This is a competitive national photography exhibition featuring images from aroung the nation, and beyond. The Buddy Holly Center Fine Arts Program is committed  to the promotion of contemporary visual arts and educational programs.

 

Art Call Theme: A Musical View

Music and photography have been long linked; Ansel Adams frequently equated the variation in black and white images to the keys on the piano. T he relationship is more complicated and nuanced than the analogy implies. This show invites photographers to explore the intercourse of tone, color, and image in all its powerful permutations.

 

Eligibility

Illuminance is open to all artists using photographic processes as their media. Please do not submit work that has been shown in a previous Illuminance exhibition.

Juror: Brett L. Erickson

Brett Erickson’s work has won acclaim internationally. His work has been shown in locations such as Laguna Beach, California; London, England; Kamloops, British Columbia; SoHo, New York City; Santa Fe, New Mexico;  and Berlin, Germany.

As a professional documentary photographer and journalist, Brett's work has been featured on National Public Radio, www.nationalgeographic.com, American Public Media, and Nebraska Educational Telecommunications.  Previously he served as the freelance Central Nebraska Bureau Chief for NET Radio (Nebraska Public Radio). Brett's first book, PlainSky, Nebraskans, with National Geographic’s Sam Abell, was published in 2013. He is now currently working on a second book involving the culture of rural rodeos in the High Plains of the American West. Brett teaches yearly courses at the world’s foremost photographic educational center, the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, and is a sought after workshop instructor. Hahnemühle is his sponsor.

 

Entry Fees

One to three works: $30

Each additional work: $5 (non-refundable)

Artists are not limited in the number of entries they may submit. Credit card payments will be processed by phone. Call 806-775-3560 10 am to 5 pm CST, Mon-Fri. Checks may be submitted via regular mail. Receipts will be scanned and emailed to entrants.

 

Submitting work

Email digital images to:

chighsmith@mylubbock.us with an inventory list that includes your name, mailing address, and phone number as well as title, media, and printed dimensions of each entry. Please save in JPG format, 300dpi, no larger than 750 pixels/5 inches in any direction.

 

Shipping

Work should be sent ready to hang, and packed in sturdy, reusable containers (no Styrofoam peanuts, please). Work will be insured by the Buddy Holly Center during the exhibit, but photographers are responsible for shipping insurance. Arrangements for shipping to and from the Buddy Holly Center are the responsibility of the artist.
