Artist Applications Now Open
The Incorporated Edwin Austin Abbey Memorial Scholarships were founded by Gertrude Abbey in 1926 in order to enable British and American painters to pursue their artistic practices.
The Abbey Scholarship offers one early career painter a full academic year at the British School at Rome.
The Abbey Fellowships award mid-career painters with three months at the BSR during that same period.
All living expenses for the artists are covered and stipends are paid.
The Abbey Scholar receives £1,000 per month and Abbey Fellows receive £1,500 per month.
An Abbey residency at the BSR is an opportunity for artists to get away from the pressures of their everyday lives and to work in the most fascinating city of the ancient and modern world. The BSR provides living and working space for around 35 artists and scholars in large modern studio apartments; a supportive community of practitioners working independently and alongside each other.
Eligibility: UK and US nationals and long term residents.
