We welcome applications from emerging and established artists of all mediums and love hosting artists who are self-directed, focused and kind. Our hope is that you will leave the residency feeling rested, renewed and inspired.
Why Gabriola?
Also called the Isle of the Arts, Gabriola Island is home to over 200 artists and has more public beach access points than any other Gulf Island!
Part of the traditional and stolen territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, the earliest archaeological record on Gabriola is a cave burial dated back to 1500 BC and there are several locations throughout the island and a park where you can view petroglyphs that are thousands of years old.
Come in the fall or winter to get cozy with a project in the studio or storm-watch and retreat back to the cozy cabin. Fall and early spring are lush and green here with its own beauty.
Enjoy your morning coffee in the garden with the many varieties of roses and fruit trees then grab your supplies and head out to explore some of the island’s natural beauty!
Hang out under a natural sandstone wave at the Malaspina Galleries, build sandcastles on one of the two beaches at Gabriola Sands, search for petroglyphs at Sandwell, swim or walk along the sandstone shore at Drumbeg or swim at night with the phosphorescence in Descanso Bay.
If you need to cool off in the forest, check out the 787 community park, spend some quiet time in the Elder Tree reserve or take the 30 minute walking trail from our cabin to Gabriola Sands (Twin Beaches) and reward yourself with a swim and sunset.
