Event History
The KIAC Artist in Residence Program was founded in 2001, and has welcome over 170 talented artists, musicians and filmmakers to Dawson City. Artists from all regions of Canada and around the world come to stay. Our alumni include Western Canada Music Award winners, Sobey Art Award nominees, and prize-winning filmmakers from film festivals across the globe. Former artist residents have work in permanent collections at the Metropolitan Museum (New York), the National Gallery of Canada, the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Yukon Arts Centre. They have also presented work at some of the world’s premier venues: MoMA New York, the Georges Pompidou Centre (Paris), Whitney Museum, Documenta, Venice Biennale, and Art Gallery of Ontario, among many others.
What Makes this event different?
In Canada's Arctic
This artist in residence program aims to share an inspirational environment and culturally relevant context for art research and creation for professional artists of all levels of experience.
The residency is in place to provide professional artists with unrestricted time and space to develop, research, and produce an ongoing or new body of works/projects; to introduce visiting artists to northern cultures, people, and landscapes; to provide the Yukon community with exposure and access to a diverse range of contemporary Canadian and international arts practices and theories, and to provide outreach activities such as workshops, talks, and exhibitions, intended to promote interaction and professional development within the community.
