Event History

After more than a year of the Corona pandemic and all the associated restrictions on art and culture, Artcation would like to give young artists the opportunity to spend a month in an Austrian cultural metropolis and to work artistically there.

What Makes this event different?

What is offered? As part of Artcation, three artists are given the opportunity to live and work in an Austria Trend Hotel in Vienna, Salzburg or Innsbruck for one month. The applicants can choose the hotel or the city themselves. In concrete terms, the Artcation residency programme includes the following: Stay from 12 July to 12 August 2021 either at the Austria Trend Parkhotel Schönbrunn in Vienna, at the Austria Trend Hotel Europa Salzburg or at the Austria Trend Hotel Congress Innsbruck Room with traditional Austrian breakfast Additional, spacious working room Professional support from Galerie Crone staff

Artcation is aimed at artists under the age of 40 from all over the world. There are no requirements with regard to a specific genre or production method. Applicants can come from the entire spectrum of the visual arts, from painting, drawing and sculpture to photography, video and film, performance, digital art and time-based media.

Requirements:

  • Completed studies at an art academy or art university or
  • in training at an art academy or art university or
  • Participation in at least three group exhibitions in an art museum, an art association or a comparable institution and at least one solo exhibition in a gallery or art institution.
     

There are no further requirements. For the age limit of 40 years, the cut-off date is the beginning of the residency, i.e. the applicant must have been born after 12 July 1981

 

Working materials are not provided. You must arrange your own travel to and from the hotel.

  • Applications must be received by 31 May 2021 at the latest.
  • The decision on participation will be made on 11 June 2021.
  • Announcement and notification of the three participants will take place on 15 June 2021.
  • The residency begins on 12 July and ends on 12 August 2021, postponement is not possible.
     

The deadlines and dates are subject to possible restrictions due to the Corona pandemic.

Who decides on the awarding of the three residencies?

All applications will be reviewed and evaluated by a jury. The jury will then decide which applicants will receive the three residency places. The jury is made up of the following three artists from Galerie Crone:

  • Carola Dertnig, Head of the Performing Arts Department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna
  • Nikolaus Gansterer, multiple visiting professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna
  • Otto Zitko, visual artist and internationally known for his abstract spatial drawings
     

The following supplementary guidelines apply to the application, submission and participation in Artcation:

  • There is no entitlement to selection or participation in Artcation.
  • By submitting an application, each applicant agrees to the use and processing of his or her documents, information and personal data for the organisation, implementation and handling of the residency.
  • The data will not be passed on to third parties.
  • The works created during the residency remain the property of the artists.
  • Participants must have liability insurance. 
  • The room and the working space may only be used by the participating artists.

Artists who meet the requirements for Artcation can apply for one of the three artist residencies via the online form.

Artist Statement

  • Statement on the motivation for the application.
  • Statement on artistic practice and objectives (specification of media, forms of production, possible partnerships or cooperations).
  • Statement on a possible artistic project that the applicant would like to realise during the residency.
     

Curriculum vitae

  • Curriculum vitae with full name, address, date of birth, education, exhibitions, publications if applicable, awards, previous residencies.
  • Proof of the requirements for the application (see above "Who can participate", i.e. diploma, certificate of study or proof of exhibition).
     

Work portfolio

  • Portfolio or other suitable presentation of at least 20 works created in the last five years (for images as a PDF, for moving images as a Vimeo link; other formats cannot be considered).
