Deadline: November 24, 2024

What is Abstractum?

Derived from the Latin word meaning “something which exists abstractly,” Abstractum speaks to those intangible, conceptual ideas that defy concrete form. It is also known as doublet of abstract, neuter of abstractus (feminine abstracta).

In philosophy, abstracta are entities that exist in thought, divorced from physical reality – think of emotions, ideas, principles, or even universal truths that shape our understanding of the world. It’s the essence behind what we see, the emotions behind what we feel, and the thoughts behind what we know.

Abstractum theme embraces everything non-literal and conceptual. We want you to explore the unseen, express the inexpressible, and dive into the conceptual layers that connect our inner worlds with the abstract universe around us.

What Can Abstractum Include?

Abstractum can encapsulate countless interpretations. Perhaps you express fleeting emotions like joy, melancholy, or hope through swirling shapes and bold colors. Maybe you explore universal themes like time, space, and memory through textured compositions and layered techniques. Your work might be an exploration of the tension between chaos and order or a meditative journey into patterns, lines, and rhythms.

We encourage you to think expansively and let your imagination take the lead. The freedom of abstraction allows for endless possibilities, giving you the space to create art that is thought-provoking, mysterious, and deeply personal.
