The Chicago Industrial Arts & Design Center (CIADC) is accepting submissions for 99/1 which is an open showcase of speculative designs for new public artworks.
All completed submissions will be included in the exhibit.
Reflecting on your ideal public work, where would it be in the city, and why? Through the years sited artwork commissioned through the percent-for-art ordinance in Chicago has a record of producing some of the city’s most recognizable icons. For 99/1 CIADC is asking artists and designers to submit plans for new works designed outside of the restrictions that have determined public art in Chicago to date – commemorating histories and locations in the city not typically recognized in municipal and corporate installations, unbound from the budgetary restraint that allocates a fraction of our overall resources to creative work.
Submissions should include a work statement, a primary image of the proposed artwork, and a location/site within the city of Chicago that the work was designed for. Images will be printed on 8.5 by 11 inch (215.9 mm x 279.4 mm) letter paper in black and white on a LaserJet printer, and will be displayed in the gallery along with selected models, original drawings, and 3D renderings.
